Joint statement on proposed alcohol duty hike in 2025 budget
WineGB and six other drinks industry bodies have joined forces to lobby the Chancellor ahead of the November 2025 Budget, urging Rachel Reeves not to hike excise duty on alcohol. They're arguing that now's the wrong time to raise taxes when investment's frozen, jobs are being lost, and hospitality's already squeezed – instead they reckon growth and more jobs will generate better revenue for public services than another duty rise.
