Drinks sector eyes opportunity as India-UK trade deal comes into force
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement has come into force, significantly opening up the Indian market for UK drinks exporters. Scotch whisky tariffs are being slashed from 150% to 75% immediately, with further cuts to 40% over the next decade, whilst India gains duty-free access to 99% of UK exports. It's a major win for the Scotch industry in what's already the world's largest whisky market by volume, and signals broader trade opportunities for UK drinks producers in India's growing economy.
