Back British vineyards
The UK vineyard and winery sector is pushing for a targeted excise duty relief on direct sales through cellar doors, capping it at 50,000 bottles per producer. The proposal would cost the exchequer about £6 million but aims to boost wine tourism (which currently attracts 1.5 million visitors) and build resilience in a sector experiencing recent sales slowdown. The campaign, called Wine Tourism Relief, is gaining traction in Parliament and highlights how cellar-door sales have become a key growth engine for English and Welsh wine producers.
